RESOLUTION PASSED BY THE CHICAGO CONGRESS Whereas, it has been proved to the Fenian Brotherhood, alone through the authorized reports of the Head Centre, but through the forced acknowledgements conveyed in certain re denunciations emanating from the enemies of the Irish race, there exists among the men of Ireland a numerous and wide extended national organization, which was heretofore named Irish Revolutionary Brotherhood, but which having grown in numbers and power, in subordination to its constituent authority and in discipline under the wise and able directions of its centre executive, is now known as the Irish Republic, be it resolved That we, the centres and delegates of the Fenian Brotherhood assembled in this convention, do hereby proclaim the Republic of Ireland to be virtually established, and moreover that we pledge ourselves to use all our influence, and every legitimate privities? within our reach, to promote the full acknowledgement of its independence by every free government in the world.
